Design Your Own Business Website

Using Key Principles

When you design your own business website, it needs to cost you as little as possible and look fantastic. Otherwise you may as well pay a professional designer. You can use a template website design that thousands of other users already have on the net. But you won't have your own unique identity.

Design Your Website To Prove You Mean Business!

To get the trust and approval of your visitors you need to make it look professional. It will take some hard work and creative thinking. If you don’t already know what is involved with building your website from start to finish, visit our making a business website page.

How Do You Make Your Website Look Good?

- Make Your Designs Relevant

The best designs are made entirely relevant to the theme. Don't place something in a design simply because you think it looks good. A good rule is "if it doesn't make sense, it doesn't belong."

"But I thought having a Lamborghini in my Business Law Website Header looked good?"

It doesn't make sense and you actually appear to make too much money from your clients.

What Would Be A Relevant Example?

The SimpleWeb logo at the top of our page is a good example. We didn’t put the circles in place of the letter ‘I’ for fun. The circles represent a thinking bubble because we create small business website packages.

Of course we are biased to our own designs!

Learn To Make Your Designs Simple

Take the less is more approach to stay simple. Avoid trying to fill in every last space on the page. Most marketers try cover up every inch of the page with advertising. Consider this the biggest mistake.

Instead direct the viewer towards the important parts of your page using suggestive shapes and images combined with open space.

Notice how the SimpleWeb logo at the top stands out because of the open space around it? Keep this principle in mind for the rest of the process.

Are You Following Good Web Page Principles?

To keep a visitor on your site they need to easily understand how your website works. Always have a professional looking header which is the visual design placed at the top of the page. If this makes a great first impression it improves your credibility as a business operator. Visitors won’t take you seriously if you can’t design the header well yourself or at least pay a professional to do it.

If you want your visitors to visit more than one page, make sure the navigation bar is easy to find. If it is hard to find, the back button becomes much easier to find. When you design your own business website keep the navbar on the left hand side or just beneath the header. We suggest you steer clear of using right hand side navigation as visitors automatically look to the left or beneath the header.

Entertain And They Will Remain

Your visitors will stay as long as they enjoy reading your content. Just make sure they can read it! The content area of your website is the most important. Place it in the middle of your page and break up paragraphs. Your visitors scan your site so use 6 lines per paragraph at the most.

Be Mindful Of Time Wasting

You can save yourself a lot of time and money before you design your own business website. Simply consider whether or not your time is best spent on your business or on your business website. It is very easy to spend countless hours figuring out web development programs. Instead you could have been making a profit selling to customers or providing a paid service.
